SIOP is a professional association for the science and practice of I/O Psychology. SIOP's website offers a slew of valuable information including current research trends, white papers, and events/webinars. The website also provides students with a job network where they display job and internship postings. Becoming a member of SIOP has many benefits including networking with professionals, staying up to date on industry information, and having the ability to post a resumé for free. SIOP yearly dues are $110 for professional members (Fellows, Members, and Associates) and a discounted rate of $55 for Student Affiliates. Click here to become a member of SIOP.
The most exciting part of being a member of SIOP is the annual conference where researchers, practitioners, and students come together to share ideas and network. Each year this conference is hosted in a different city in America. The 2022 SIOP Conference is in Seattle. The conference consists of panel discussions, presentations, and poster presentations by other students. If considering a PhD or advanced I/O position, submitting a research proposal to SIOP will help with applications. Proposals must be well written, theoretically ground, rigorous in data and analytics, and push understanding of a topic forward. There is a 55% rejection rate for proposals due to the competitive nature of this accomplishment.
SIOP's annual conference also helps foster a sense of community among the professors and students in MSU's I/O program due to the social opportunities and gatherings. While the conference can be pricey, it is highly recommended for students to try to attend this event because the benefits are worth the cost.
